Failed ride to work

Miles: 15.?

TTL Mileage for the week: 15.?

Weather: 45 degrees and sunny

Food: MultiGrain Cheerios & CytoMax on the ride.

The Ride: I got 1/2 way but on the road to the bridge(which is extremely rough) I started having issues. I rubbed some sensitive parts raw on Saturday because I wore thick underwear under my shorts and in the end a knot in the seam did bad things to me. I thought it wasn’t as bad as it was but I was wrong. I turned back at the 1/2 way point because I knew I wouldn’t be able to make it home in the evening.

I’m going to take a break from the bike until Saturday so hopefully things heal enough before the big climb. I’m also going to check out a few gym’s tomorrow morning so I can add some strength training to the routine and start buckling down to a serious routine 3/1.

3/1 marks 3 months until the AIDS LifeCycle so its time to start sucking it up and working through these silly obstacles.

Lessons Learned: Don’t wear underwear with thick seams under the cycling shorts. They say your not supposed to wear underwear at all but this did not agree with the experience I had when I started riding.

Ride to work

Miles: 32.6

TTL Mileage for the week: 32.6

Weather: 60 degrees and sunny!

Food: Cereal for breakfast, Strawberry GU & Electrolytes for the ride. Sandwich for lunch and then electrolytes and GU for the ride home.

The Ride: The ride to work is easy with only about 150′ of elevation change for the Dumbarton Bridge.

I’ll post my route to gpsies.com sometime today.

Also my registration for for the Cinderella Classic arrived yesterday. I’m going to run this to the post office on my way in to work today to make sure it gets in the mail TODAY. The ride is limited to 2,500 women so a quick turn around on the registration form is the only way to get a spot. It sounds like there is going to be a Bike Expo or a Women’s Biking Expo at the fair grounds when the ride is over so I will post more when I know more about it.

First ride to and from work!

Miles: 26.7

TTL Mileage for the week: 26.7 miles + 30 min on trainer

Weather: Foggy in the AM. Partly Cloudy in the PM.

Food: Applesauce for breakfast. Chocolate Clif shot on the ride. Gatorade, green tea latte (no sweetener), macaroni salad & 1/2 a sandwich for lunch followed by the 2nd half of sandwich 20 minutes before the return trip home. No food / electrolytes on ride as Billy drove by and I hitched a ride. Recovery shake after the ride.

The Ride: After about 4 miles I realized from the burn in my chest that I forgot to pre-load with the stupid rescue inhaler. After this out of the way it was on to Don Edwards Park and over the Dumbarton(mild head wind) to Melo Park. When I got over the bridge I was greeted by a 1′ deep lake that I ended up riding on the double yellow line on the frontage road to the bike path and got my shoes wet. COLD WET FEET FTL! After that it was smooth sailing to work and recovery lunch shortly after.

The ride home went well but after I was half way thru Don Edwards on the return trip Billy showed up asking if I wanted to hitch a ride the last 6 miles. So I decided to hop in and take the easy route home for the first ride to and from work. Other than that there was nothing signifigant about the return trip. It went quick and I still had lots of energy when Billy turned up.

Next week I’m planning on 2 rides to work, Saturday Cindy training and Sunday ALC training which is going to total about 75 miles.
